After reading Jamis Buck's Coming home to Vim, it was fun to see nearly a hundred comments from many who have had brief (and even extended) lay-overs with other editors. Though Jamis speaks specifically of his frustrations with TextMate, others, including myself, have been lured away by Eclipse. But, so many of us feel a suffocating emptiness when using these other editors and are continually drawn back to the power and beauty of VIM.
In the spirit of coming home to VIM, here is one of my favorite mappings in my .vimrc file. It allows you to use the control + h,j,k,l keys to navigate between split windows
map <C-J> <C-W>j
map <C-K> <C-W>k
map <C-H> <C-W>h
map <C-L> <C-W>l
Another of my favorite VIM tips is the NERDTree plugin for getting a TextMate-style project drawer.
